Briefly, the idea is to mark abandoned architecture buildings in Vilnius with human-scale geometric shapes, drawn on the walls using living materials – moss and lichen, thus forming an experiential route through the decaying landscapes of Vilnius. Using these bioindicators we will try to define the characteristics of a local biosphere, raise awareness of the abandoned sites and their ecosystems, and learn about the ecological qualities and processes of the urban environment.
Our primarily selected locations are now either demolition sites or under influence of gentrification. This puts us in a position for even more sensitive commentary on the city and its ecologies. Realizing this, we decided to refine the idea by the means of research and experimentation.
