Vaitiekūnas
Vilius Vaitiekūnas is an art educator and cultural producer, living in Vilnius and Aleknaičiai, Lithuania. He received his BA in Fine Arts from Minerva Academy, the Netherlands, and completed a pre-master's programme in Art and Cognitive Science at Groningen University. VIlius is also an alumnus of Rupert’s Alternative Educational Program (2021) and Inland Academy (2022). Currently, Vilius is studying MA in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art at Aalto University, Helsinki, where he is exploring themes of locality and rurality in contemporary culture.
He is a founder of Akee Space for Culture, a community initiative that aims to enrich the discourse on Lithuanian and international culture related to non-urban areas and to create opportunities for cultural producers and researchers to implement socially responsible as well as site-sensitive projects in non-urban areas. Vilius is a former curator of education and community engagement activities at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius, where, in addition to designing and implementing a number of educational activities complementing contemporary art exhibitions, together with Kamile Krasauskaitė he has also curated the "14th Baltic Triennial: Endless Frontiers" (curators: Valentinas Klimašauskas and Joao Laia) educational programme. Vilius also assisted in "Children's Forest Pavilion" (curators: Egija Inzule, Jonas Žukauskas, Jurga Daubaraitė) – the Lithuanian National Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, 2023. As of 2024, Vilius is head of educational programs at Stasys Museum and curator of “Experiments Platform” at Architekturos fondas as well as visiting lecturer at Lithuanian Music and Theatre academy.
